TDEE Calculator for Bodybuilding
Estimate maintenance calories, then choose a controlled deficit for cutting or a small surplus for lean bulking. Treat the result as a starting point and adjust from real weekly data.

Use maintenance as the anchor
Enter your current body weight, height, age, sex and realistic activity level. Do not automatically choose the highest activity factor because you lift several times a week; daily steps and physical work also affect expenditure.
Set calories for cutting or lean bulking
For a cut, begin with a moderate deficit and protect training quality. For a lean bulk, begin with a small surplus and track the rate of gain. Change one variable at a time instead of reacting to a single weigh-in.
Protein and progress checks
Protein needs vary, but resistance-trained adults commonly use a high-protein intake distributed across the day. Review body-weight trend, waist measurement, gym performance, recovery and adherence every two weeks before changing calories.
Bodybuilding TDEE questions
What calorie surplus should a bodybuilder use?
Start with a small surplus of roughly 150-300 calories above maintenance, then adjust from weekly body-weight and training trends. A larger surplus does not guarantee faster muscle gain.
What deficit works for a bodybuilding cut?
A moderate 10-20% deficit is a common starting range. Slower loss is generally easier to combine with hard training and adequate protein.
How often should I recalculate TDEE?
Recheck after a meaningful weight or activity change, or when two to three weeks of consistent tracking no longer match the expected trend.
Is TDEE an exact measurement?
No. It is an estimate. Use it as a starting point and calibrate it with consistent morning weigh-ins, food tracking and performance.
